Trey's latest injury

My poor baby tripped and slammed nose first into a wooden box.  ouch!  In addition to the blood ON his nose, there was blood IN his nose.  After he didn't calm down after 10 minutes, I started to wonder if it was broken, so we started googling minor emergency centers in Estes Park (nothing).  Luckily, the old "ice it down with a cold beer" trick sounded appealing to him, and we put on How to Train Your Dragon and he eventually calmed down.  Today he hasn't complained about it, so I guess it isn't broken!

Icing it with a cold beer.  Through his tears he said "Mommy, when I'm done with this can I drink the beer?"

Jonah wanted to give Trey a kiss to make it better.  Ahhhh.  He got about 6 inches from Trey, then did a little air kiss and backed away.

Today: a very wide nose and black eye, plus a pretty decent gash on the top.

FINALLY learning the manual settings on the camera

And a willing subject to model for me as I practice.

These kids have it so easy

Yesterday Trey told me "mommy I can't brush my teeth because the battery in my tooth brush is dead!" I actually had to show the kid the old fashioned way to brush his teeth.

Jonah looks so grown up!

A new favorite local spot

Last weekend I discovered Glendale Farm Open Space.  There is a 17 acre off-leash dog park, which the dogs LOVED.  It wasn't just a big flat square - it had hills, some bushes and trees they darted in and out of, and beautiful views of Pikes Peak (and I25 but I could ignore that).  It even had some dog agility equipment, but Blackie and Riley were NOT into that.  After we took a loop around the dog park, I thought we'd follow the trail for a bit.  Later I found it was 1.6 miles, so sometime I want to go back and do it twice for a 5k trail run.  Glendale Farm is my new favorite local nature spot behind Castlewood Canyon!

Keeping a secret

Trey stayed with Joe in the popup on Saturday night.  On Sunday I was asking him all about his night camping with Daddy.

me:  "what did you have for dinner?"

Trey:  "steak."

me:  "what did you have for breakfast?"

Trey:  "donuts!  wait.  I meannnnnnnn, no."

me:  "huh?"

Trey:  "well, we had donuts but Daddy said not to tell you, so we didn't have donuts."

Gross!

Jonah and I went out to breakfast together on Sunday, and we were playing his favorite "what is this?" game.  He held up strawberry jelly:  "what is dis?"  He held up salt:  "what is dis?"  He held up orange marmalade:  "what is dis?"

He held up sweet & lo:  "what is dis?"

me:  "that's yucky.  you don't want that stuff."

{Jonah looks at the package with a strange look.}

Jonah:  "is there poop in there??"

the potty reward

I received a call at work today from Jonah:

Jonah:  I went poop in the potty!

Me:  Yeaaaaaa!  What color m&ms did you pick out?

Jonah:  boo and boo and red and red and deen
{translation = 2 blue, 2 red, and 1 green}

Our summer of camping!

I expect to do a lot, and I mean A LOT, of updates this summer from the road.  We are taking 2 big camping trips and a lot of weekend outings.  I've created a new blog for this...  see the link to the right or here.  Happy reading!

a piece of history (my grandfather)

The maiden voyage

Joe is taking the popup out this weekend on it's maiden voyage.  I want him to spend a weekend in it before we take the kids and dogs out to the middle of nowhere.

He got it out of storage today to clean it out and organize the inside.  Here it is without the side beds popped out.

ABCs

I was reading a book to the boys tonight, and I said "what starts with the letter A?" I expected Trey to say apple or ant, he answered "Alpaca!"

Our first camping trip!

We're headed to Estes Park and Steamboat Springs for a week after Memorial Day, and I'm so excited to use the popup!  Here is the first place we are camping:  http://www.essentialcoloradorv.com/spruce-lake/.  Normally we're going to try to bondock, i.e. camp without hookups or official spaces in BLM land, but for the first few nights in the popup I wanted to be somewhere civilized.
