I actually finished a project! I am so proud of myself. I made this mobile with origami birds for Jonah.

Ensconced in velvet

How adorable is a little boy in a brown velour bunting? Don't you just want to eat him up?

This morning Trey and Jonah were with me in the home office while I was working (no I don't have today off like the rest of civilization). He brought some books in to read.

Me: Why don't you read to your brother?

Trey: No. I'm going to read to duckie.

Me: Who do you like better, your brother or duckie?

Trey: Duckie.

Me: Trey! You should like your brother better.

Trey: But duckie quacks!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!

New system for mail

I get stressed out with piles of papers and mail around the house... Usually on the kitchen counter. I've misplaced a few bills that way. I read that you should only touch a piece of mail once - either pay the bill, file away, recycle or shred. So I have a new system - we get the mail but I don't look at it right away. I put it in a basket and sort through it only once a week. I love my new system! All the mail stays in 1 place until I am ready to open it and put it where it belongs.

TV

With Trey, if we caught him looking at the TV we turned it off. With Jonah, we let him hang out on the ottoman and arch his body into awkward positions to see the TV. Oh how things change from baby #1 to #2.

missing you

Last night when I was putting Trey to bed, we had this conversation:

Me: Did you miss me when I was gone all day?

Trey: Um…no!

Me: Do you know what it means to miss someone?

(long pause)

Trey: Ms. Arleen? (his teacher at school)

This is NOT how a morning should look

Wake up in a crabby mood. The high school swim team is in the locker room at my upscale gym taking all the showers and sinks and being very obnoxious and loud. This is 6:15 in the morning people! Get dressed and realize the pants and sweater I brought do not look good together but it is too late to go home and change, and I am having lunch with the CFO of Staples today. Why didn't I bring a suit anyway? Oh yea, they don't fit because I still have some baby weight. Walk out of the gym and asked by some woman if I was part of the high school swim team. Ok.... Maybe that last part wasn't so bad.

Tonight we were reading a book about trucks, and Trey asked what a
paver was.

Me: I think it smoothes out the ground.

Trey: No mommy that is a roller.

Me: Well then it must scrape the gravel so it is all flat.

Trey: No mommy that is a scraper.

Me: Ask your dad.

Me: This is the last book, then I'm going to kiss you goodnight and
you have to go to sleep.

Trey: NOOOOoooooOOOOOO!

Me: Yes, Trey. This is the last book.

Trey: No, I meant don't kiss me.

Jonah's 4 month checkup

Jonah had his 4 month checkup this morning, and everything was good!

weight: 13.5 lbs, 25th percentile
height: 24.75 inches, 50th percentile
head: 16 inches, 15th percentile

His percentiles were the exact same as last time, so he is growing right on track!

We can start feeding him solids now. Solids? Really? Wasn't my baby just born like a week ago? Wow these 4 months have flown by!

He slept through the night last night! from 7pm to 6:30 am. Hope that continues...

under the weather...

Sorry I haven't posted for a few days - I am sick again! Strep.
Again. This is my 5th time being sick in 4 months. Maybe my immune
system is still down from having the baby? Ugh.

I should be able to do this

I was thinking this morning that Jonah should have a mobile. We had one for Trey, but it broke during the move. Since Joe and I are on a non-spending spree, I decided I would try to make one. I should be able to make one, right? Even with my non-crafty nature? Here are some I will use for inspiration.

here you go lara....

Me and trey playing in our closet (a bear’s cave)

Me: we can go in…the bear is not in there.

Trey: where did he go?

Me: he’s out looking for food….do you know what bears eat?

Trey:  no, what?

Me:  Berries, and nuts, and fish…

Trey: but I don’t like fish.  Actually, I like gummy fish.  Let’s go to grampy’s house and get Swedish Fish.

Happy 4 month birthday Jonah!

Baby boy is 4 months old today!

Jonah likes:

  • To flash his gummy smile when you smile at him
  • His bouncy seat with the kissing fishies
  • Baths
  • Being held
  • To take short naps (although they do nothing for his mood afterwards)

Jonah does not like:

  • His carseat
  • When his bottle is delayed
  • When trey is loud right by his face

new sheets

I changed Trey's firetruck sheets over to some tan flannel ones we
have. He's never had them on his bed because last winter he was in a
crib. When he got into bed last night, he told me "I need to wear
socks because these sheets hurt my toe." When I asked why, he said
"because these sheets usually do!" Today for nap he got into bed,
then threw the sheets off and said "Do I have socks on? Good. I
do. I should be ok then." No idea why he thinks these sheets hurt
his toe when he's never had them on his bed!

work

At Trey's Montessori school they call all the learning toys, puzzles,
games, etc. "work." The kids roll out a white cloth mat, and do
their work for about an hour in the morning before circle time and
outside play, then another hour before school ends for the day. The
kids have to respect each other's work space, they can't walk on
someone else's mat, if they want the work someone else is using they
have to politely request it then wait until the other child is ready
to move onto something else, and they have to put up their work
before getting a new one.

Today Trey and I came home from the pet store (free entertainment
watching the birds, fish, rodents, and lizards), and he saw that Joe
was using the weed whacker and also had the lawn mower out. Trey
said "but daddy didn't put away his work before getting another one
out!" He was very distressed by this.

Jonah's first jogging stroller ride

I bundled Jonah up and took him on a short walk to the mailbox, a block away. In the other stroller we have he sits backwards in his carseat, so I thought he would enjoy this vantage point. Not so much. He started crying halfway there and kept it up the whole way back.

Let's answer this once and for all

Looking at pics from when Joe and I were little...does anyone still
think Trey looks more like Joe than me?

Being chased

When we were at grampy's house last weekend, Trey and I played outside in the nice fall weather. He said we were being chased by a harpy eagle so we ran from tree to tree. It was so much fun!

Another time Trey said he was protecting the Pooh stuffed animal from the caimans. Only grampy knew what a caiman was!

Thanks to the writers at Nick Jr for teaching us about harpy eagles and caimans via Diego.

Ya think?

Trey: mommy! Jonah's crying!

(As if I couldn't hear him)

Me: oh no! Why do you think he is crying?

Trey: probably because I bonked him on the head!

Me and my boys

It is a community effort

Trey gets some company while in the "office"

When did my baby get so big??

He'll be 4 months old on Monday and growing up so fast!
