They lost 12 to 4 but the team actually looked pretty good! Jonah sat on the bench a couple innings, played 3rd base and center field when he was on the field.
The picture of the beautiful catch he made was during practice not the game.
Couple of funny kids, crazy dogs, and parents who don't feel old enough to be parents.

Hike: ridgeway open space
Jonah and I went on a great hike this morning! Only 3.5 miles but nice hills and in castle rock, so close.

No idea where he got this
At school Eli's teacher was having the kids make pretend cake. Eli shouted "I'm making alcohol cake!"

New school next year! American Academy
The boys got into American Academy next year! It is a charter school in Douglas County. It will be a brand-new campus, they just broke ground, but American already has 3 other campuses nearby so it is not a new school.
The boys will be wearing uniforms which I am really excited about.
It is supposed to be tough academically-they said expect 1 to 2 hours of homework per day for middle school and at least an hour a day for elementary school.
They also have a focus on manners. All kids are required to address adults as yes ma'am or yes sit.
I can't wait! Uniforms, tougher expectations, manners… I won't recognize my own kids!

Jonah started baseball practice
He has 3 months of (indoor!) practice before spring games start. Twice a week for 2 hours, then 4 hours of free gym on the weekends if we choose.

New craft corner!
My home office was always trashed with Jonah's crafts. Little bits of paper, scissors on the floor, art supplies everywhere. Today I had the epiphany to convert an unused nook into a craft corner! At least now it will be out of sight.

New recipe - energy bites
I've been looking for healthy snacks for the kids that have protein and healthy fats. This recipe was a hit! Energy bites are a mix of almond butter, oats, mini chocolate chips, and honey. Just mix ingredients together into balls and put in freezer. The boys love them and they are so easy to make! There are so many different versions of this recipe with everything from flaxseed to ground up dates instead of honey. Unfortunate the boys can't take to school as snacks because of the nuts, but they are great for after school or when we are running around crazy on the weekends.
Jonahs first practice for spring AAA baseball
Jonah had his first practice last night for spring ball. He was super excited! The group is practicing at a place called Gameday, which has a huge indoor facility. He played with most of these kids in the spring last year. It will be competitive this year! Practice mondays and fridays from 5:30-7:30, optional open gym for 2 hours each on Saturday and Sunday. Games start mid-April and will be 2 games during the week. Also we will be going to 5 tournaments (mostly local, the farthest will be in Steamboat Springs). Hang on to your hats!
A soldier wrote back!
Back in November, we sent several letters and goodie bags to "any soldier." That is an organization who has contact people all over the military, and when you send packages to the contact people they give it to soldiers in their unit who don't receive a lot of mail. We received our first letters back! Victor is stationed in the Horn of Africa and wrote nice notes (albeit on a interesting Christmas card for kids) and sent pictures of what life is like there. The kids were very excited!

First day hike
Even after staying up until 2am, Jonah was happy to be my hiking partner! We did a first day guided hike, a program put on by state parks in Colorado on January 1st. The guide was very interesting and pointed out (and picked up) bear poop. He was a geologist so he had lots of interesting tidbits about the rocks and land, which Jonah loved. After the hike they had hot chocolate and about 10 different kids of soup. This is the 2nd year we've done this and I love the tradition!
