No more ear infections?
Trey had his ear tubes put in today. Hopefully it will cut down on the number of ear infections!

Flop
Trey has learned a new trick, but it is hopefully one that won't be repeated. I had the camera in the bathroom to take some adorable photos of Trey with bubbles last night. I didn't want it to get wet when he got out of the bath, so i stepped out of the bathroom for literally 5 seconds to put the camera on the dining room table. I heard a loud "thunk," then Trey start crying. He had climbed out of the bathtub and landed on his head on the bathmat. He wasn't really hurt and stopped crying almost right away, but I had no idea he could climb out! Lesson learned.
Baby babble
I've noticed over the past week that Trey's "talking" noises have changed. Although he has a few words, most of his noises were repetitive - bababa, dadada, kakakaka. It is hard to explain, but he has been making more sophisticated and creative sounding noises. Almost as if he is speaking a real foreign language, rather than baby babble. It is very cool to hear the changes. He still doesn't call me mama though. I've had a long wait to hear that, and I'm still waiting!

Surprise!
On only his 3rd day of daycare at the new place, Trey has learned how to let himself out of the sleeping room. There is a section of the room with 3 ft. high walls around it where the cribs are and it is kept dark for napping. The kids that are about to transition to the toddler rooms will sleep on a mat on the floor in this area. Today Trey surprised his teachers by appearing in the main part of the room after his nap. Apparently he has learned how to open the door. What an ingenious little guy!

Kissies!
Trey has learned how to give kisses! He can smack his lips when you ask for a kiss. However, when you go in for a kiss, he opens his mouth wide - lots of slobber and tongue involved, so it is up to the kissee to keep their mouth clamped shut. sooo adorable!

Look who's walking!
Clocking in at just a shade under 14 months, we can officially say Trey is walking! It takes some cajoling, but he can make it across the living room by himself. Crawling is still his mode of choice (people are amazed at how fast he can crawl), but I'm sure in just a few weeks he will be a pro!

A new sign... and new steps!
Trey is now signing "all done" when he doesn't want any more of a certain food or he is finished eating.

He has also taken about 10 steps on his own. Joe has him practicing with his truck a lot during the date (see video below). This morning Joe called me to report Trey was having a blast crashing his truck into Quinn, who didn't seem to mind.

Nor'easter
Since we are trapped in the house due to an old fashioned nor'easter, I have some time to update the blog with some of Trey's new tricks. How is it that it was 72 on Wednesday, and now we are getting 6-10 inches of snow?
First of all - a shout out to all the McCarvers out there... Happy St. Patricks Day! Tomorrow we will hit our local irish bar, John Stone's, and see if Trey likes the irish music. He loves music so much at home, I can't wait to see his reaction to seeing a live band.
Trey did wonderfully at the new daycare. We stayed with him for about 10 minutes so he felt comfortable. But most of the time he ignored us and chased a ball around. We said bye (he can wave bye now), and he didn't even cry when we left. I called an hour later to check on him and he was still chasing the ball around. I went to pick him up at the end of the day, and no surprise he was STILL playing with the ball. This kid is going to be a sports star, I just know it. When he saw me he beelined right over, and in the process completely plowed over a 10 month old who was in his way. I mean knee in the back and everything. It was very funny. Luckily the other kid didn't seem to mind.
Trey is consistently signing "bath," and I swear I have seen him do "eat" a few times. He recognizes the sign for ball and milk, but he doesn't sign them back yet.
A few days ago during bathtime, Trey was putting his face in the water. I couldn't tell what he was doing, so I said "Are you drinking the water? Are you licking the water? Are you blowing bubbles?" As soon as I said the word "bubbles" he snapped up and pointed at the window ledge where I keep some bubbles. He recognized the word from when I blow bubbles during bathtime! And I had only done it a few times. It just amazes me how fast he is learning.
We found an awesome new hiking place just up the road from us. For those of you that have visited, it is on Edgell road going north (away from Rt. 9). It is called Knox Trail and is public land with 450 acres of trails. From the highest point you can see 3 states and the skyline of Boston. The day we went the trails were still snow covered and icy, but we can't wait for this to be our weekend hiking spot. Trey loves riding in the backpack.
Trey can get to a standing position completely on his own now. If there is music on or we sing, he will bounce up and down. He still won't take steps on his own though, beyond the 2 steps he took last week. He has the skills, because when we walk around the house, I can hold on to 1 hand and he walks by my side.
Quinn's face is even more white, if you can believe it. I think becoming Trey's play toy has really aged him. He has developed a thyroid problem, so we need to give him yet another supplement. But he is as happy as ever and loves playing in the field with his lab friends.
I think that is all of the updates. I am going to have a new website for tiny tales soon, so I will post the link as soon as it is up.

New Daycare
Trey starts at the Staples daycare today for a practice run. Joe has a meeting from 2-5, so Trey will be there only in the afternoon. He starts there on Monday full time. When the weather is nice I want to go over and have a picnic lunch with him. Although...I don't want him to cry in the morning when I drop him off, get excited to see me again at lunch, then be sad again when I leave after lunch...so I'll try it a few times and see how it goes.

It is hard to believe that Trey ever hates baths. It is now his favorite time of the day, and can turn a grumpy baby into a happy, splashing kid. However, for the 1st 10 months of his life, he screamed during bath time, and I think now it is because he hated the bath seat. Maybe if we had used this he would have liked it better!

Trey Frankenstein?
Trey is getting really good at walking by my side, holding onto only 1 hand. He needs to work some more on bending his legs when he walks, but he is making so much progress! Getting more and more confident every day. He still prefers crawling, probably because he can get anywhere at mach speed.

a big day!
it has been a huge day! we took Trey to feed the ducks for the first time, he had a french fry for the first time, and he took his first 2 steps on his own!
