I am taking both kids to TX tomorrow....by myself! I am a little worried about the plane ride. Trey has a hard time sitting still for 2 hours, like any 2 year old. I have 5 movies and a DVD player for him, and I picked up these kid headphones for him. Pink was the only color they had. He's been walking around the house with them on, and saying "Can you hear me?" into the plug end.

The Fountain
One of our favorite places to go is Southlands Mall. It is an outdoor mall close to the house. It has a very cool fountain that, on a nice day, has a ton of kids running through it. My favorite restaurant is there too - Mt. Fuji - I love Japanese hibachi!

And it's not even 9am
I didn't think when I woke up this morning that I would get peed on by both my boys.
I was changing Jonah and got sprayed. I know better! I keep forgetting to cover him. Interestingly, I have gotten sprayed about 10 times. Joe? Not once. Maybe Jonah can recognize his own kind?
Then later Trey had ripped off his diaper like he does about 10 times a day now, and we were standing in the kitchen talking. Right as I felt something warm on my foot, Joe said 'he just peed on your leg.'. I don't think he was aiming for me, but I have no idea why he even peed. Guess we have a long way to go with potty training!

Big boy!
We went to the doc today because Jonah seems to have a slight case of reflux. He will now be taking baby zantac.
He weighs 8lbs 1oz! Let's put this into perspective. Jonah has put in 2 POUNDS in less than 2 weeks.

Jonah's first bath
I admit we've been a little lax when it comes to bathing Jonah. They gave him a sponge bath in the hospital, and I wiped him down with a wet washcloth once, but other than that his 3 weeks of life have been bath free. To our defense, we couldn't give him a bath until his cord stump fell off, which was just earlier this week, but we could have been giving him sponge baths all along. When he looked undeniably greasy and started to get some acne...I decided we had waited long enough.

The deck is finished
This is a bad photo b/c I took it out of the living room window, but you can see the lower deck and the stairs. The upper deck is 16x11 with a pergola over half of it. Then the stairs are angled (with a baby gate at the top), then a landing, then the bottom deck is an octagon shape with benches around half of it. It is so cool! Trey and I hung out there a lot yesterday afternoon/evening and the weather was perfect.

Matchbox cars
Judy sent some matchbox cars and trucks with Grampy this trip as a present for Trey, and he LOVES them! Joe put him to bed last night, Trey insisted on taking handfuls of them to his room. When Joe checked in on him later, he was on his back, spread eagle, cars in both hands.
Jonah's 2 week checkup
I took Jonah for his 2 week checkup today. I'm technically not supposed to drive until tomorrow, but shhh... I did it anyway. Grampy is in town, so I let him and Joe and Trey spend some quality time together shopping at Sam's.
Jonah weighs 7 lbs 6 oz. The doc is very impressed with his weight gain. They look for the baby to be back to birth weight by 2 weeks, and Jonah is past that by 12 oz! He is still relatively small though on the weight scale in the 20th percentile. He has grown a 1/2 inch, which puts him in the 50% percentile for length. And he has a small head like his brother, coming in at the 10th percentile. His cord stump fell off yesterday and looks healthy, and his "boy part" is healing well from the snip snip surgery.

My wild and crazy son
Right before dinner is the "witching hour" when Trey has a sudden burst of uncontrollable energy, loud volume, and selective hearing. When the deck is finished, I will be sending him outside to play during this time.

Marianne and Suzanne – The Shepperd Twins
That’s how we were thought of when we were young, and always in that order.
Marianne always was first: the first born, the first to walk, the first seat in our bicycle-build-for-two, the first driver of the car we shared, the first to have a baby – her precious daughter Anne – and the first to travel to our heavenly home.
When I was trying how to describe Marianne, I was drawn to her amazing artistic talent to think of a box of crayons.
Remember how you felt when you opened that new box, and you could choose from any of the crayons…….but you were drawn to one special color in particular, and that would be the first you’d take out of the box.
It was more exciting, more vivid, more unique, more fun, more memorable than all of the others.
And if you looked at the label to see what that color was called, it might have been something like Periwinkle Purple or Tropical Orange.
Now, imagine that those crayons were actually a box of people who were the most wonderful and loving, the most unique, the most memorable in the box.
The name on the side of that crayon would be Marianne Morse. She was a color of her own.
To talk about how special Marianne was to us, we would have to talk about those things that were most special to her.
First and foremost was family. Marianne’s children and grandchildren were everything to her. Anne and Byron, Maggie and Cole, Clint and Diana – Stephen Forrest and Grace – Marianne loved each very much and delighted in her grandchildren. Her husband Clint was the love of her life and her friend and companion.
Marianne also was a wonderful daughter to our parents, and I couldn’t have asked for a better sister for my brother Al and myself. Countless nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews…. The family is large and loving and she will be greatly missed by us all.
Since January, I have been in Roanoke quite a bit and Marianne and I have discussed a lot of things that in our busy adult lives we hadn’t had time to talk about.
We talked about Romans 10:9 – “If you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
I believe with my whole heart that Marianne accepted that promise and at this moment is standing in the presence of the Living Lord.
I believe that on Wednesday Marianne decided that everything she needed to do was taken care of here on earth..and that she should have the privilege of going on – to see Dad and our brother Johnny – and to check things out to make sure it is ready one day for the rest of us.
So for those of use who have been left behind, our crayon box is missing one very special color.
But if you look closely at a rainbow the next time you see one, you might just see a color that is a little more vivid, a little more unique, a little more interesting, a little more memorable.
That color would be called Marianne.

The backyard before photos
One of the most important things to me now that we are in the wonderful Colorado weather is that we have good outdoor spaces to spend our time.
We are in a subdivision where the houses are all done by the same builder and look similar. Most neighborhoods in this area of Colorado are the same way. We thought we would hate it, but what the homes lack in individuality, the community makes up for in common spaces and amenities like parks, trails, wide streets to ride bikes, and POOLS!
This is the view from our garage, looking across the street to the pool, playground, basketball court, and park.
Here are some "before" photos of the backyard. Next week construction starts on our new deck. They've already started to take up the concrete pad that was there. We are going to double the size of the existing deck, add a pergola over part of it for shade, change the staircase to be 2 sections with a landing in the middle (ever since Trey's tumble down the long staircase at the rental house I am paranoid about it happening again), add a baby gate at the top of the stairs, and add a lower deck where we can sit and watch the kids play in the yard. I'm imagining dinner every night on the top deck and drinking beers in lounge chairs on the lower deck. Joe will also work his magic on the plants.

Today my aunt lost her year long battle with uterine cancer. My uncle lost his wife. My mom lost her twin sister. My cousins lost their mom. My grandmother lost her daughter. Everyone lost a loving woman who always thought of others before herself. I can't believe she is gone. We miss her already.

Report from the hospital
I'm on my blackberry right now reporting in from the hospital. I'm having a little bit of alone time - mom stayed with me last night and went to take cousin Erin to daycare, Joe is doing the morning routine with Trey and dropping him off at daycare, and baby Jonah is off getting his 'boy procedure' done.
Mom stayed with me last night and we had a nice, relaxing night with good chunks of sleep. I haven't had any pain at all and have even been up walking around this morning - albeit very gingerly. I'm looking forward to my buttermilk pancakes for breakfast!
Jonah is just a dream. He is nursing like a pro, and as the nurses say it is clear his plumbing is working with 12 poopie diapers in 24 hours! The funniest thing is his sneeze! It makes us and the nurses laugh every time - it sounds like a little maniac laugh right before the sneeze. Hard to explain, but very distinctive and funny. He has mostly been sleeping, eating, and pooping, but will gradually be more alert over the next few days.
Strangely enough my water broke and I was having strong contractions about thursday 4am, just a few hours before my scheduled c-section. I can't decide if Jonah was thinking that if he was going to be born that day anyway he would try to come on his own terms, or if he was trying to help. I'm excited to see his personality start to emerge.
Trey stopped by for just a few minutes yesterday and seemed marginally interested in Jonah, but more interested in his new George the Monkey (as he calls it) book and butterscotch candy.
I will report more news and photos as I have them!

My chinese food fortune cookie tonight had "daughter" as the learn to speak chinese word. Is that a sign about tomorrow? Only 12 hours and we'll know what has been kicking me like a pro soccer player for the past few weeks!

I'm sad to report that our vacuum cleaner is no more. It was a gift 10 years ago from my dad as a college graduation present (discuss). It has lived a relatively easy existence due to hardwood floors in our previous houses and apartments, and lasted only 2 months in the land of wall to wall carpet. I'm "nesting" with the baby coming soon, so I decided to vacuum the whole house. I noticed it didn't seem to be picking up anything, then I saw smoke. I guess the motor burned up. Bye bye vacuum!

July 4th neighborhood parade
I did it! I actually posted videos! These are from the neighborhood "parade" on the 4th. Actually, it is more like a disorganized, chaotic neighborhood walk than a parade, but still fun to decorate the kiddos and bikes and take a walk around the block. Trey is riding his supercool new scooter that he loves. It was originally decorated with balloons on the back but I had to take them off when he thought the balloons were going to get him.

A new house!
Well...we went and bought a house! We decided we wanted to stay in Parker, so we started looking so we could get into a house before the baby arrived. We got lucky and found one we loved, and it was empty so we were able to close in a record 3 weeks. Let me tell you - 2 moves in 3 months is not fun, and I didn't even help that much!
More info about the house to follow, but for now, my top 15 list.
Top 15 best things about our new house (in no particular order):
1. Right across the street, and I do mean directly across the street, is a large park, pool, and very cool playground. It is so easy to just cross the street and play for a while. No big production, no packing a swim bag - easy as pie.
2. A real master suite with a real walk in closet with a real master bath with a real jacuzzi tub.
3. A huge unfinished basement to finish sometime in the future.
4. A kitchen that is pretty close to Joe's dream kitchen - gas stove, double oven, stainless appliances, island, tons of cabinet space, and it looks onto the living room.
5. Mountain views from some rooms.
6. A guest bedroom with a private bathroom.
7. An open loft area on the 2nd floor that we have set up as the playroom with all the toys. Wee hoo! No more toys in the living room.
8. A back deck with access from the kitchen. Our last house had a back deck, but you had to walk through the living room to get to it, so we didn't eat out there very often.
9. 5 minutes away from Mari & Scott and Anne & Byron.
10. A 2 car garage for our cars, and a separate garage for Trey's toys and Joe's lawn toys.
11: A paved driveway for Trey to ride his John Deere tractor.

My goal for this weekend (among several others) is to take some short video of Trey and post it to the blog. He is so funny lately and I need to get it on video!

There isn't enough room for all 13 parent inventor products, so they make groupings and everyone is there for about a 12 week cycle. They take into consideration packaging size, color, seasonality of products, etc. They want the end cap to look as good and cohesive as possible.
Tiny Tales is not in the wave that is going on store shelves in February 2009, so I might be in the May wave. It will definitely be sometime in 2009 - i.e. this is a done deal we are just working out the details.
I am actually happy that my "set date" as they call it is not February. That would mean I would have to ship to them in January, and have all my products here from China by December. My current process is to order enough for about 300 or 500 kits at a time, then assemble them myself over time. This won't work for Target. Their initial order will be somewhere between 5,000 and 10,000 kits, so I have to outsource the assembly of the kits so they all arrive at a warehouse in the States completely assembled and ready to go on the store shelves. I also need to change the packaging to be more Target-ready, as they want to hang it on a peg on the end cap. And to have all that done by December would be tough.
