A glimpse into the mind of a 4 year old

Jonah: can I get a toy from Target?

Me: probably not

Jonah: (very excited). That means maybe I can!

Who is the parent here?

Jonah: trey I got mouthwash tonight!

Trey: mommy did you give it to him?

Me: yes.

Trey: did you read the label before you gave it to him? It says ages
6 and older.

Me: I read it after I already gave it to him! But I watched and he
was very careful not to swallow any.

Trey: (heavy sigh) ok. Just don't do it again. And you should really
read the labels more carefully.

Me: (feeling sheepish) ok, I won't do it again. I'm sorry.

This child is so ornery

Me: Jonah what did I say to you right before you went outside?

Jonah, looking up at me with his big blue eyes trying to look all
innocent: ummmmmmm.... Be sure to put on my shoes?

Me: no. I told you not to go outside.

He is now spending some quality time in his room alone.

My nutty child

8am, riding his jeep with a life jacket and mismatched socks. Love this boy!!
Me: isn't it so exciting the Parkers bought a house?

Trey: we should be excited for things happening in our OWN family, not THEIRS!

Kindergarten orientation

Jonah was so excited for kindergarten orientation. He got to meet his
teacher, Mrs. Graham, and they had a scavenger hunt set up where the
kids got a sticker on a map for finding certain rooms. He wrote a
note all by himself for his teacher that said I love you. It was so
cute when he gave it to her! She bent down and hugged him.
When we were walking out he suddenly stopped and said "wait! Aren't
we going to stay until they announce who won the scavenger?"

I can't believe my baby is starting kindergarten in a few months!!

No one ever accused him of being modest

Me (trying to be encouraging): nice job with that math problem! You are so smart!

Trey: yea. I know. My teacher gives me harder math problems in class because I'm too smart for all the regular math problems.

Jeez! Note to self - cut back on the "smart" comments and try to teach the kid some modesty.

He does have a point...

Me: where is Daddy?

Trey: He's at Jayce's house having a beer with Jayce's dad. Its like
he's on a grown up play date!

Being a dog is hard work!

Poor Blackie - he's so pooped by country living that he can't even get
all the way on his bed. That can't be comfortable!

A finished project!!

Mari came over to put up the hallway of pictures just like I've always
wanted!! It looks perfect. Now I just need to get all the photos in
the frames. I should be able to get that done sometime this year....

Snack date with my lil' man

Savoring my youngest before he becomes the middle.

Now that we're in the new house, maybe I should turn my focus to this
baby that's coming in a little over 3 weeks! I should probably pack a
bag for the hospital, get a carseat, get new bottles, diapers, wipes,
etc. It's crazy how time seems to have both crawled and flown by!

What a relief!

The boys are definitely at goldrush elementary next year, even though
we moved out of the district. Yea! This has been up in the air for a
few weeks so I'm glad to know for sure.

Updates

So many things going on....

We moved into the new house last Monday. It's still in a state of
disarray, but we're slowly making progress. I do more laying in bed
and pinning decorating ideas than I do actual decorating, but some day
I'll have more energy...

The boys have made new friends with the neighbor kids. There is a 5
year old boy on 1 side and a 7 year old boy on the other, so
immediately they all became friends. We have a little culdesac gang
here. They run in between our 3 yards at will. Both neighbors have
trampolines and playsets, but we are the home base because of the dogs
and the dirt pit where they dig for worms. Poor Blackie and Riley -
they aren't used to this much attention and the neighbor kids love
playing with them!

We closed on the old house on Tuesday. Yea! We left the basement
swings there with the old futon mattress (aka crash pad) and the buyer
said his kids were beyond excited. It's the little things in life,
right?

Baby is scheduled to arrive 4 weeks from tomorrow. I cannot wait to
meet him! And I'm so ready to not be pregnant! I've been having a
lot of Braxton hicks contractions over the last few weeks, and some
are really uncomfortable. I'm "allowed" 4 per hour as long as they
aren't getting stronger or more frequent. But they are hard to
ignore, so at least once an hour and several times a night I'm
reminded that I'm really, really pregnant and really uncomfortable.
All worth it in the end of course, and at least the nursery is the 1
room in the house that is close to done!
