DC Day 1, part 2

Getting out of the airport to the metro was super easy. Lesson learned I should have gone right to the bike place but instead we went to the hotel first. I thought 90 minutes to get to the hotel, check in, charge my phone, get to bike place - no problem! Yea... It was a tight squeeze. So our first few hours in DC were a little stressful, especially since I had to keep turning my phone off and on to save battery but try to get directions. Then we had a crazy lady tell us the wrong metro info so we got off a train and waited for another one when we didn't have to. We went the wrong way out of the metro to the hotel and also at the bike place. We had only had granola bars since breakfast.

Finally we arrived at the bike tour - 10 minutes late. But the nice lady caught us up to the tour so we only missed a few minutes of walking around at the first monument.

Seeing the monuments at night was amazing. The tour guide was not. I think it was her first tour and she was so nervous she kept hopping from foot to foot and forgetting the history. But no matter.... It was still interesting and after the stressful day I was just happy to follow! My phone stayed alive long enough on airplane mode to get some photos.

So back to the hotel to grab some quick good from the hotel restaurant. By now it was 10:30 and we were exhausted!

DC Day 1, part 1

Luckily we were flying the day before the big spring snowstorm, but we didn't get out unscathed. Something was wrong with the plane so they stopped boarding halfway through, unloaded everyone who had already gotten on, then we sat for about 45 minutes waiting for info. Luckily they found a new plane and the flight was only 90 minutes delayed. Which was a very good thing because we had a "monuments at night by bike" tour schedule for 6:30. The new landing time of 4:30 meant we should still make it.

On the plane Trey spent the time recopying our agenda because mine "had too many crossed out parts." (It had 1)

Foreshadowing.... I shouldn't let Trey watching movies on my phone most of the flight because maybe, just maybe, that phone contains pretty much all info like our hotel address, the address for the bike tour, and our only camera. The nice flight attendant asked the folks sitting in a front row if I could use their outlet for a while. That got the charge up to 15%.

I was reviewing our DC agenda with Trey and he said "What are we NOT going to see? Like.... What is the opportunity cost of this agenda?" How does he know about opportunity cost?

Project 333 (kind of)

I've read about a thing called project 333 where you take everything out of your closet except for 33 items of clothes, shoes, and jewelry for 3 months. Then after 3 months you rotate in different items. And if you never rotate in certain clothes, then you know to get rid of them.

I've always thought that was a good idea but never tried it. I was inspired this week and went through all of my work pants. I ended up boxing up 12 pair that are a size too small, putting aside 9 pair that are too big or that I won't wear (I'll try to consign them), and left 6 pair hanging in my closet. Where there were 27 pair of pants to think about every morning, now there are only 6. It is so freeing!

Joe hates how many close the kids have so I decided to do the same for them. We agreed to 10 each of short sleeve shirts, longsleeve shirts, shorts, and pants. A mix of athletic, standard, and a few for dressing up.

I've tried to weed out their clothes many times before but always end up keeping too much. This time we were very successful! It was tough to make decisions but having a very specific goal made it easy overall! We were done in 15 minutes with both older boys.

Now… I need to tackle Eli's closet and my own.

Eli's latest obsession

For the last 3 days Eli has been obsessed with these measuring spoons. It started the day Jonah and I made 4 recipes (yes 4! Can you believe it? Me!) and he hasn't let them go for 72 hours. He's been carrying them around, playing with them, taking a bath with them, sleeping with them. It's so crazy!

Colorado Rapids

Joe and Trey go to 6 Colorado Rapids games a year and have a blast. They go early and tailgate with the fan club. Last night the Rapids won with a score in the last 30 seconds.
