We employ the Toy Monster technique in our house, and it works fairly well to get Trey to pick up his toys before bed. Tonight Trey called me up for #3 stall attempt of the night, and he asked me very sweetly if I would pick up the blocks outside of his room. Picking the path of least resistance, I fibbed "sure baby. I'll pick them up." He replied "Thanks Mommy. Please leave my door open so I can watch and make sure you really do it." BUSTED. Between my giggles I let him know that he could pick them up tomorrow and for tonight I would tell the Toy Monster not to come upstairs. He seemed ok with that answer, considering I just lied to his face. Twice. But to my credit he only caught me in 1 lie.
